Expressions of Orientalism

From the end of the 19th century to the 1960s, many Western, French, Spanish and English painters were attracted by exoticism but also by the authenticity of Morocco and the beauty of its landscapes and its culture. From attempts to interpret the “mysteries of the Orient” to the warm reality of the inhabitants and nature, more than 80 original works allow to appreciate the imprint of Morocco in the inspiration of major artists like Delacroix, Van Dongen, Majorelle, Pontoy, Legrand, Bertuchi, Herrera…

Portraits, historical scenes, landscapes, games of light, everyday scenes unfold to describe what the eyes and the spirit of the painters have filled to tell “their Orient.”
